In the legislative procedure of the European Union for a new chemicals policy, the first stage, namely the first reading in the European Parliament and Council of Ministers, has alsmost been completed. The European Commission proposals for the registration, evaluation and authorisation of chemicals (REACH) call for compamies to be required to provide data on chemical substances to be held in a central database.

ÖVGW opens Brussels agency
As of 12 July, the Austrian Association for Gas and Water (ÖVGW) is thus able to represent the interests of the Austrian drinking water management directly at the European corridor of power. ÖVGW Vice President Harald Schneider:"Although Europe is presently in a crisis, there is no doubt that policies are still designed in Brussels.
